This special issue, brilliantly edited by Dr. Luciano Furlanetti and Dr. Ricardo de Amoreira Gepp, focuses on advancements in pediatric functional neurosurgery, addressing surgical interventions for complex neurological disorders in children. The collection includes clinical and pre-clinical studies exploring novel indications, emerging technologies, refined methodologies, and long-term outcomes. Contributions cover a range of topics, including pallidotomies, intraventricular baclofen, selective neurectomies, and deep brain stimulation, with a focus on managing conditions such as spasticity, dystonia, and neuropsychiatric disorders. The issue also features case reports and reviews on the use of multimodal approaches in treating severe, refractory conditions like cerebral palsy and Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, emphasizing improving the quality of life for patients and caregivers.
